Leg Veins: Sclerotherapy
What is Sclerotherapy? What conditions may be treated?
Sclerotherapy can help create more beautiful legs and restore better venous circulation. Venous insufficiency often causes leg cramps, swollen ankles and even unsightly dilated and tortuous veins on the legs. Sclerotherapy can help reduce those unsightly veins with advanced diagnostic testing for venous circulation, ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy and advanced laser therapies.
Under ultrasound guidance, special intravenous medication can be used to erase unsightly veins and shut down nonfunctional, incompetent veins. Ultrasound guidance improves the accuracy and efficacy of sclerosing medication.
When and What Results Might Be Expected? How long does the results last?
Gradual and modest reduction of unsightly veins over three to six months is expected.
Results generally last up to years with further treatments suggested for maintenance.
What is the recovery like? When can I return to work and activities?
Recovery is minimal. Temporary swelling and bruising are expected during the first few days. Compression stockings are required during this period and for maintenance.
Any treatments to help maintain or enhance my results?
Minor adjustments, maintenance, or further enhancements can often be done non-surgically with procedures such as additional Sclerotherapy. More extensive changes may require further surgical procedures such as radio-frequency or laser ablation, vein ligation and/or removal.
